The National Testing Agency (NTA) has made an unprecedented change to the JEE Mains syllabus 2024. This article will discuss the additions and subtractions made to the new JEE Main syllabus. The reduction in the JEE 2024 syllabus is considered as a welcoming move by a lot of the critics as the students aspiring for JEE Advanced 2024 will get more time to prepare for the exam. New JEE Mains Syllabus 2024 

While the recent changes to the JEE Mains syllabus 2024 may come as a surprise to some, many had already anticipated this shift. This is due to the revisions made to the NCERT books for classes 11 and 12 in 2020-2021. The current syllabus changes are merely an extension of those earlier revisions, specifically targeting the 2024 batch of JEE Mains aspirants.

JEE Maths Syllabus 2024

If there is any subject that has had the maximum changes, it’s Mathematics. From a total unit reduction to sub-topics reduction, almost every unit has been altered. Let us do a complete analysis of the syllabus. 

Unit 1: Sets, Relations and Functions
  • No changes have been made in this unit. 
Unit 2: Complex Numbers and Quadratic Equations
  • The square root of a complex number and triangle inequality have been removed.
Unit 3: Matrices and Determinants
  • Properties of Determinants have been removed.
  • Elementary Transformations has been removed.
  • Tests of consistency and solution of simultaneous linear equations in two or three variables using determinants have been removed.
Unit 4: Permutations and Combinations
  • There has been no change in the syllabus of this.
Unit 5: Mathematical Induction
  • The entire chapter has been removed from the syllabus.
Unit 6: Binomial Theorem and its Simple Applications
  • Properties of Binomial coefficients are removed.
Unit 7: Sequence and Series
  • Sum up  n-terms of special series; Sn, Sn2, Sn3 has been removed.
  • Arithmetico – Geometric progression has been removed.
Unit 8: Lmit, Continuity and Differentiability
  • Rolle’s and Lagrange’s mean value theorems have been removed from the syllabus.
  • Tangents and normal from the chapter of Maxima and Minima of functions of one variable have been removed.
Unit 9: Integral Calculus
  • Integral as the limit of a sum has been removed.
Unit 10: Differential Equations
  • The formation of differential equations has been removed.
Unit 11: Coordinate Geometry
  • Translation of axes has been removed.

Straight Lines

  • Equations of internal and external bisectors of angles between two lines have been removed from the syllabus.
  • Equations of the family of lines passing through the point of intersection of two lines have been removed from the syllabus.

Circle, Conic Sections

  • Condition for a line to be tangent to a circle has been removed.
  • Equation of the tangent has been removed.
  • Condition for y = mx+c to be a tangent and point (s) of tangency has been removed.
Unit 12: Three-Dimensional Geometry
  • A plane in different forms has been removed.
  • The intersection of a line and a plane has been removed.
  • Coplanar Lines have been removed.
Unit 13: Vector Algebra
  • The Scalar and Vector triple product also called the STP and VTP, which most aspirants found challenging, has been removed.
Unit 14: Statistics and Probability
  • Bernoulli trials and binomial distribution have been removed from the syllabus. 
Unit 15: Trigonometry
  • Equations have been removed from the syllabus.
  • Heights and Distance has also been omitted.
Unit 16: Mathematical Reasoning
  • The entire chapter has been removed from the syllabus. 

JEE Physics Syllabus 2024

Unlike seen for the JEE Maths syllabus 2024 units either getting reduced or canceled, the JEE Physics syllabus 2024 has been different. Meaning in the new Physics JEE main syllabus, there have been additions as well as reductions in the syllabus. Let us discuss them below:

Unit 1: Physics and Measurement
  • Accuracy and precision of measuring instruments have been removed.
  • Significant figures have been newly added.
Unit 2: Kinematics
  • Zero Vector has been removed from the topic.
Unit 3: Laws of Motion
  • Circular road and vehicle on a banked road have been newly added to the previous syllabus.
Unit 4: Work, Energy and Power
  • Instead of ‘neoconservative forces’ now it has been changed to ‘non-conservative forces’.
  • Motion in a vertical circle has been added.
Unit 5: Rotation Motion
  • Earlier, it was ‘Rigid body rotation equations of rotational motion’. However, this has gotten more trimmed. Now it is, ‘Equilibrium of rigid bodies, rigid body rotation equations of rotational motion, comparison of linear and rotational motion’.
Unit 6: Gravitation
  • Geo Stationary Satellites have been removed from the syllabus.
  • Motion of a satellite, Orbital velocity, Time period and energy of satellite has been added to the syllabus.
Unit 7: Properties of Solids and Liquids 
  • Newton’s law of cooling is removed from the syllabus.
  • The effect of gravity on fluid pressure has been added.
  • Excess of pressure across a curved surface is also added.
Unit 8: Thermodynamics
  • The Carnot engine and its efficiency has been removed.
  • Isothermal and adiabatic processes have been added.
Unit 9: Kinetic Theory of Gases
  • The topic remains the same.
Unit 10: Oscillations and Waves
  • Forced and damped oscillations, resonance have been removed from the syllabus.
  • Along with that, the Doppler Effect in Sound has been removed.
Unit 11: Electrostatics
  • There have been no changes to this topic.
Unit 12: Current Electricity
  • Resistances of different materials have been removed from the syllabus.
  • Colour code for resistors has also been removed.
  • Potentiometer – Principle and its applications has been removed.
  • Mobility and their relation with electric current have been added.
  • Metre Bridge is a topic that has been removed from the NCERT but continues to stay in the syllabus for JEE Main syllabus 2024.
Unit 13: Magnetic Effects of Current and Magnetism
  • Cyclotron has been removed.
  • Earth’s magnetic field has been removed from the syllabus.
  • Other two topics that have been removed from the unit are ‘Electromagnets and Permanent Magnets’ and ‘Hysteresis’.
  • Magnetic field due to a magnetic dipole (Bar magnet) along its axis and perpendicular to its axis has been added.
  • Torque on a magnetic dipole in a uniform magnetic field has also been added.
  • Another topic that has been omitted from the NCERT but added to the JEE 2024 syllabus is,’ The effect of temperature on magnetic properties’.
Unit 14: Electromagnetic Induction and Alternating Currents
  • Quality factor has been removed from the JEE mains syllabus 2024 and also NCERT.
Unit 15: Electromagnetic Waves
  • Displacement Current has been added to the main exam of JEE 2024 syllabus.
Unit 16: Optics
  • The resolving power of microscopes and astronomical telescopes has been removed from JEE main. 
  • Instead, ‘Thin lens formula, and lens maker formula, and lens maker formula’ has been added.
Unit 17: Dual Nature of Matter and Radiation
  • Davisson – Germer experiment has been removed. 
Unit 18: Atoms and Nuclei
  • Isotopes, Isobars: Isotones have been removed.
  • The entire topic of Radioactivity has been removed from the syllabus.
Unit 19: Electronic Devices
  • ’Junction transistor, transistor action, characteristics of a transistor: transistor as an amplifier (common emitter configuration) and oscillator’ has been omitted. 
Unit 20: Communication System
  • The entire unit has been removed from JEE mains syllabus 2024.
Unit 21: Experimental Skills
  • Point 8 and point 13 has been removed. 

JEE Chemistry Syllabus 2024

The NTA has made major reductions in the Chemistry subject of the JEE Mains syllabus for 2024. It is imperative for all aspirants who are appearing or preparing for JEE main exam in 2024. The changes in the new syllabus for JEE main exam are mentioned below.

Unit 1: Some Basic Concepts in Chemistry
  • Physical quantities and their measurements in Chemistry, precision, and accuracy have been removed.
  • Significant Figures, S.I. units, and dimensional analysis have also been removed from the syllabus.
Unit 2: States of Matter
  • The entire chapter has been canceled.
Unit 3: Atomic Structure
  • Thomson and Rutherford atomic models and their limitations has been struck out from the  JEE 2024 syllabus.
Unit 4: Chemical Bonding and Molecular
  • No changes have been made.
Unit 5: Chemical Thermodynamics
  • Entropy has been added.
Unit 6: Solutions
  • The topics remain the same.
Unit 7: Equilibrium
  • There have been no changes here.
Unit 8: Redox Reactions and Electrochemistry
  • Even in this unit, no changes have been made.
Unit 9: Chemical Kinetics
  • The unit remains the same.
Unit 10: Surface Chemistry
  • This unit has been omitted.
Unit 11: Classification of Elements and Periodicity in Properties
  • No changes have been made.
Unit 12: General Principles and Processes of Isolation of Metals
  • The chapter has been removed.
Unit 13: Hydrogen
  • This chapter has been removed.
Unit 14: S-Block Elements
  • Alkali and Alkaline Earth metals are removed from the JEE 2024 syllabus.

Unit 15: P-Block Elements

  • From Group 13 to Group 18, only general knowledge is included in the syllabus. However, the details that are removed include the preparation, properties, structure, tendency, etc.

Unit 16: D and F Block Elements

  • The syllabus remains the same.
Unit 17: Co-ordination Compounds
  • There have been no changes in this unit.
Unit 18: Environmental Chemistry
  • This unit has been removed.
Unit 19: Purification and Characterisation of Organic Compounds
  • The unit syllabus remains the same.
Unit20: Some Basic Principles of Organic Chemistry
  • Follows the old syllabus.
Unit 21: Hydrocarbons
  • No changes were made.
Unit 22: Organic Compounds Containing Halogens
  • The topics remain the same.
Unit 23: Organic Compounds Containing Oxygen
  • There have been no changes in the unit.
Unit 24. Organic Compounds Containing Nitrogen
  • The unit syllabus remains the same.
Unit 25: Polymers
  • The entire unit has been removed.
Unit 26: Biomolecules
  • Hormones (General information) have been added.
Unit 27: Chemistry In Everyday Life
  • This unit has been removed.
Unit 28: Principles Related to Practical Chemistry
  • The unit syllabus remains the same.

Conclusion

Following the CBSE’s reduction of a few chapters from the 11th and 12th syllabi in 2020, the NTA has modified the syllabus for the JEE Main 2024 examination and beyond. This change has been implemented just two months before the commencement of JEE Mains 2024. Section 1 of the exam is scheduled from January 24 to February 1, while Section 2 will take place from April 1 to April 5. It is essential for students to be familiar with the revised syllabus before appearing for the exam.
